If you need to purchase a new washing machine for your home you will need to be aware of the vast range on offer. You will clearly be considering what you can buy that is within your budget, do you go for the cheapest as long as it ‘does the job’? Or do you try to stretch a bit further to buy something nearer to the top of the range? There must be a difference and what extra features is there to choose from?
For the modern home with a fitted kitchen the choice you will most likely prefer is a fully integrated washing machine. These are exactly the same as a usual washing machine except that they are built in to your existing units and are therefore out of sight, giving a much neater look to your kitchen. Usually they will be installed into a cupboard to fit in with the decor. Once you have closed this cupboard door you can no longer see the washing machine.
When buying a new kitchen get the washing machine installed while the kitchen is being fitted, or if you have an existing kitchen the retailer you purchase from will offer an installation service and install it for you. The best retailers will make a pre-visit check to determine where the machine is to be installed, locality of the pipe work and any other considerations that need to be taken into account before the actual installation date; this is an additional thing to consider as purchasing a fully integrated washing machine can be more troublesome than buying a freestanding model.
The higher range models have become increasingly popular because of the enhanced features that they offer and their better after sales service.
Consider after these services carefully, they are a vital factor in ensuring the longevity of your purchase. Sometimes the manufacturer will offer an extended warranty, this sounds fine but it is essential to read the small print. Does it cover just the parts that may need replacing in the coming years? Is it just some of the parts? If so which ones? Will it cover the cost of an engineer visit or will that need to be paid for separately?
Your retailer will offer an extended warranty or service plan too.
These can be more comprehensive in that will usually be all inclusive and cover parts and service for the duration of the agreement. Although you will need to ask what will happen if the machine becomes beyond economical repair. Will they replace it or just cover part of the cost, and is there an excess that will need to be paid?
Many of these agreements will also cover accidental damage, most people have left something in the pocket of a garment, and this could damage the machine and would not normally be covered under your statutory rights, another thing to find out beforehand. This is an area where you will need to do your research.
In a world where we are more and more aware of environmental issues and being ‘green’ most people now consider it just as important to purchase an energy efficient model as a feature as any other. Even this is just to keep the electricity bill down.
A fully integrated washing machine model rated as A plus or triple A will be the most energy efficient.
